The Most Destructive Force To Mankind - Ignorance

Ignorance. If you do not take the time to learn about things, your ignorance will ultimately affect your way of life. Ignorance about history is number one. It is amazing how much people do not know about history. If you don't know about the past, how can you possibly know about the now, and the future?
Other cultures and races. How can we end hatred in this world? Learn about each other. We may learn something about ourselves. We may also find that divine string that bind us together.

Something I Wish I Had Done Differently

Not that I have any regrets. But one thing I wish I had done differently was to stay in college. I'm still taking that year off. Four years isn't a long time, but I wanted to FIND myself.
But truly, everything happens for a reason. If things had been different, I wouldn't have my two beautiful, brilliant children,
Plus, there is no guarantee I would be working in the field I studied for, and invested so much money into a degree that I would still be paying for.

Someone Who Has Influenced The Way I View The World

In truth, though I know it may shock a lot of people whom I know, and some not, it is Min. Louis Farrakhan. He really opened up the study of the world, history, anthropology, sociology, religion, and Black history for me unlike anyone else. I owe a debt of gratitude to him. I now look at things in a clearer perspective than I did prior to hearing his teaching. Though there may be some things I do not agree with, they are minute in comparison to the things he has taught me.
I love him. True, there are some people who do not like him, some hate him. But for me, he truly saved my life.
I wouldn't pick up a book before I heard him. I was not knowledgeable about Black history in America or abroad, before hearing his teaching. I wouldn't pick up a Bible, let alone The Holy Qur'an, before I heard his teaching.
 Again, I love him.

A Must -See Documentary "Esoteric Agenda"

Esoteric Agenda. It changed my view of life, religion, government, and the world. It really made me re-evaluate my way of thinking, and opened my eyes. Just terrific.

Someone With A Great Voice, Speaking or Musically

Obviously James Earl Jones, Dennis Haysbert, Paul Robeson (I know he's dead, but he had a beautiful voice), Zeljko Ivanek, Ian Anthony Dale, Meryl Streep, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Franklyn Ajaye. I could go on and on!

The Hour I Like Most - 11PM

11PM. is the best time for me, especially if I am off from work the next day, everyone is asleep, and there is peace and quiet. It is the time where I can read whatever I want, and not be interrupted. Watch whatever I want to watch on T.V., or music, with headphones on, of course. The computer is available. It's MY time. It's even better if I'm off the next day, because I can stay up late, and people who know me, know that is REALLY late!

On Acquired Tastes, Liver and Okra, NEVER!!

Liver! There is nothing you can do to make me eat them And don't even try to mask it with gravy and onions! Ain't gonna happen.
Okra, BLEH!!! Too slimy and seedy! No way!!
I'll pretty much eat anything once, but these two "foods?" Sorry! So, if you're planning a dinner, and invite me, I'll just have cereal.

I Won Tickets To See Tina Turner In Concert!!

It was a fluke, actually. I normally do not listen to the radio, but this day, I happen to be listening to a classic rock/pop station. The question of the day was "Name the title to this song." It happened to be the theme to the movie "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome." Well, everyone who called kept saying "Thunderdome, " or the theme to '"Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome."
Again, I don't listen to the radio, and I certainly don't enter contests, but something told me, "Try it! Go for it!"
I called, and surprisingly, I got through, and said "We Don't Need Another Hero." I WON!!! I was soooooo stoked!
I asked my sister if she wanted to go, and she said yes. Though we were in the nose-bleed section, we actually had great seats, and were able to see everything with the mega-tron screens. Excellent concert, and Tina was phenomenal!! I hope I look as good at 67!!

My Favorite Cookies

Oatmeal Cookies

I can't choose just one cookie. It's not that easy. I love a moist, not soggy, or crunchy, oatmeal and raisin cookie. I love peanut butter cookies, again moist, not soggy, nor crunchy. I love the Oreo Golden cookies.

And all of them eaten with a nice, tall, ice cold glass of milk! YUM!!!

A High School Class that Should be Mandatory - Home Economics & Ettiqutte

Home Economics sewing

Home Economics & Ettiquette. I know this is not new, but it is apparent that it is not being taught in schools. Sure, parents need to do their part in teaching their childen how to take care of their homes, cook, and clean, but the children can use supplemental education in school.Back in the days, girls learned how to sew, and cook. Balance a checkbook. But these days, everything is practically done for you, or you hire someone to do it.

Ettiquette is just necessary because a lot of children are deficient in manners, and I've seen so many parents who seem incapable of teaching their children how to act in public. Because many families, mine included, do not spend enough time at the dinner table, some children do not know how to conduct themselves. They don't know how to say "please," "thank you," or "excuse me." Many children do not learn how to even properly eat. With fork and knives! Basic manners, and politeness, are lost to many children in this generation.

The Oldest Thing I Own

The book

Two things actually. I have a book that my father-in-law gave me from Iran. It was published over two hundred years ago, and it contains words of wisdom from Prophet Ali. I absolutely love it. What I like is it has writing in Farsi, and English.

Also, my mother-in-law gave me a beautiful ring made of pure silver with a ruby cabachon set in it. She said it had been in her family of at least 200 years.

These a very dear and special to me.

Easter Candy vs. Halloween Candy

Easter Candy

Do not want, nor like Easter candy. There is something upsetting about pink, light blue, yellow, and green candy. Bunny rabbits, and eggs. Peeps, yuck! Also, trying to get that thin foil off off the chocolate eggs, what's up with that? It all goes against the whole meaning of what Easter is supposed to be about, but that's another post.

Three Things I Have No Patience For

scream and shout

Number one: Rudeness! Can't stand it, can't stand it! There simply is no reason a person can give to be just out-right rude. Even if you are pissed, there is a way of firmly stating your displeasure.

Number two: Disrespectful children. Simply put, they couldn't be my child. What's worse is when their parent(s) are there with them, and they don't control them.

Number three: People driving while talking on their cell phones. UGH!! It's like when they lift the phone up to their ears, their feet lift off of the gas pedal!

My Real Age vs. the Age I Feel

Old People Sign

Physically, I feel slightly older than I am, because I have chronic pain in my ankles. When I go down stairs, it's slightly difficult. But basically, I'm pretty healthy. Mentally, I feel I have young days, and I have my middle-age days, when the mind wants to play tricks on you. Emotionally, I feel young, at least twenty years younger. That due to having young children (11 and 8), and working with young people.

All in all, I feel about ten years younger. Which is not so bad, that would put me at 38. My thirties were my best years!

My First Album

If I'm correct, it was an L.P. (long-playing album, for you youngsters). "Got To Be There, " by Michael Jackson. I remember getting my allowance, and walking to (now I'm really showing my age) J.M.Fields, and buying it. OMG!! He was so gorgeous on the cover. Oh, and the album was excellent !!

My Worst Date Ever

Tonight's luxury (?) dinner

Easy. It was such a terrible time. I don't even remember where I met this guy, but his name was Bob. He worked at some local radio station, and was quite a smooth talker apparently, because I ended up going out with him. Anyway, He was hyping up the evening, giving me impression that we were going to have a great time, and he had everything planned. Long story short. Dinner was at Burger King. The movie - "Dune." A freakin' THREE HOUR MOVIE!!! I stayed for two. I told him that I wished to go home, which meant I had to take the bus. I left him alone, on the bus stop. In the rain.

Sunrise vs. Sunset

key west sunrise

I prefer sunrise, because I am blessed to see another day. But if I could choose a place to see either, it would be on Duval Street in Key West, Florida.

Why I Wish I Had Caller ID

ANY TELEMARKETERS!! They call when I'm sleeping, eating, using the bathroom. Their timing sucks!! Always selling things I don't want nor need. Do they really expect us to remember to contact them within 30 days to let them know that I no longer want the item or services?! It's all a scam! UGH!!

Stuff I Just Can't Throw Away

My V.H.S. tapes. Because I have some fabulous programs on them, and it would take so long to convert them to D.V.D. Also, the life span of D.V.D.s do not last long.

Some of the programs are educational, from the days when channels like Discovery, T.L.C., and A&E, were really great and informative. They will help my children as they grow up and continue with their education.

My Childhood Idols -Hmmm...Who Do You Think?

Who do you think? What is there to NOT admire about Michael Jackson? From the moment I first saw him, I wouldn't say it was idolization, but true love. He was my first TRUE love. But I must say the thing that blows me away about him most is his faith in God. It must have been strong to get through the torture of his life.

My Favorite Sporting Event - The Olympic Games

2008 Olympic Games countdown

I LOVE THE OLYMPICS!!! To see the intensity that the athletes have. The reward of dedication they endured for four or more years of training, for that moment, is inspirational. I would love to go one day, but the cost is so expensive, unless they have it in Miami, I have to continue to watch it on T.V., and now the internet.

A Book that Changed My Life - The Holy Qur'an

The Holy Qur'an

I would have to say The Holy Qur'an. It really answered a lot of questions I had towards faith, belief in God, Jesus, and problems I have in life. It also opened up an appreciation of The Bible, and has helped me understand it more.

A Sad Day in Pop Culture History- The Death of Michael Jackson

Anyone that knows me, knows my answer to the question.

Michael Jackson's death was not only surprising and shocking, but also eye-opening. I still speak of him in the present tense. He is not dead in my heart and mind, because he left such a legacy of work and images, that he will always be alive for me.

As a generation before with Elvis Presley, and John Lennon, this one was probably more profound, because Michael bridged people of different races, ages, and cultures. He is truly THE most famous person in the world.

With his death, I feel, has come an understanding of the man, and the world now is appreciating him for what he is...The greatest enterainer. Many may argue with that statement, but the amount of people that agree, outweigh them.

What I Want to be Remembered For

I would like to be remembered as a good mother. A woman who really loved her husband. A person who could make you laugh, even when you didn't want to. A sincerely good-hearted person, and someone who strove to learn something new everyday.
